Defending INSEAD Once

For once I have decided to take a "defensive stance" on INSEAD because that is one USP the school should not give up on. 14% does look high on the outset. How many american citizens do you think are in HWSK? Take a guess on that and I will not take the argument any further. On your stat. 80 still looks on the higher side, I would think it is in the 50-60 range.

INSEAD supposedly has a policy of "upper cap" (near the 10% mark) in its admission policy for nationalities. So to beat that, competition is fiercer in such pools as Indian / French / British applicants (compared to the chances of a girl from Estonia). Once a professor told me the dilemma for the admissions team is really that "whether to simply admit the best quality applicants" or "to be politically correct through a complex and rigid quota system". Of course the US schools are going through similar dilemmas but with respect to American applicants. Also note that Indians with 5-6 years experience do not have any educational institutions to go to get an MBA that has the richness of experience that is available in today's US / European schools.

Comments:
I have to respectfully disagree with you. I can understand an American school having a dilemma with too many US applicants and a EU school with too many EU applicants.

Why is it that INSEAD is the only school that has a dilemma with Indian applicants? Indian applicants also apply to US schools.

I think the problem lies much deeper. INSEAD is probably having a tough time attracting top-notch applicants from the US, Europe and even China.

to follow on my previous post...
99% of Indians at INSEAD did not make it to a top 10 US school and INSEAD was not their first choice. This also proves that the applicant pool and the subsequent entering class at INSEAD is lower in quality than that at top US schools.

Wow...You should be the INSEAD MBA director to be throwing up that kind of stats :-). Btw, the dean says over 40% of INSEAD applicants apply ONLY to INSEAD and this includes the Indians. I know people around who have given up admissions in EACH ONE of the top 10 school to be here (Harvard included :-)) and there is yeild in the opposite direction to (People let go of INSEAD for lesser known US schools)

DS,
The 40% who only apply to INSEAD, is this the second year they are applying? Remember the old saying-there are lies, damned lies and then there are statistics!

I would magine that after a year of rejects from the US top 15, there would be plenty of people who apply only to INSEAD. Not sure if this a compliment to the school or an insult!

Where did you find that 99% of Indians at INSEAD did not make it to a top 10 US school and INSEAD was not their first choice?

I got into Berkeley but am choosing to go to INSEAD instead because the diversity at any US school does not even come CLOSE

The information here is great. I will invite my friends here.

Thanks
